I've been covering how to process Fuji X-Trans files on this website for quite a few years now, and I still regularly get questions from people asking me what the best software for processing Fuji RAW files is. I generally try and not directly answer that for a few reasons, the most obvious of which is that the answer is subjective. What I might find the "best" isn't necessarily what someone else might find the best for them.

So, in the past, I've tried to present lots of different optionsand let people decide for themselves. But, today, I' going to break my own rule and tell you what I think are the best options, in my opinion, in order of preference.

Before I get to the actual results, here's a bit of a preamble about the "what and why" of this, as well as a few disclaimers. I should also note that I've written eBook guides about most of these options, and I've included links where applicable.

The term "best" is often quite misleading because as I said, it's often subjective. In this context, though, I'm talking about what gives you the most natural-looking, and the most artefact-free results when working with Fuji raw files.

There are, of course, more things that can enter into the equation, such as workflow, ease of use, and cost. Bun in this context, I'm talking purely about technical image quality. I'm basing this on processing thousands of Fuji files in many different applications.

Some times the difference can be tiny. Other times it may be more obvious. It also depends heavily on the type of image, how you prefer to process, and so on. While I believe that much of this is subjective, there are also technical standards, which I think are not, and while different people might have different standards, for me, the image should look clean, and un-processed.

It should not look too "digital" but instead should have the quality to pass an editor in a magazine or submission to a stock agency. This is the standard for which I would aim. I also have a minimum set of requirements. It must be a useable solution for working with lots of images in a project, and it must support Fuji film simulation modes at a minimum. So what do you think is the best option?

The best way is to use the software you like most. Other than that, this topic has been discussed so much, that only the "equivalence" comes close. Well, the best regarding demosaicing in my experience is RawTherapee. I personally don't like the software though so I use Capture One which also does a good job with X-trans files.

If you aren't already deep into Lightroom, you should absolutely try out Capture One too, it might work better for YOU. Some people find that C1 has better "out-of-the-box" default processing, but both programs can produce pretty much whatever look you're after once you are familiar with all the tools and tricks. Lightroom, unlike C1, does let's you easily stitch panos and merge mutiple HDR exposures without ever leaving the program.

Despite what you might hear, none of these programs suck. I think LR is great and combined with X-transformer you can get nice results. Sorry, I'm sure this is a serious question, but the chances of you getting one definitive answer to this are close to zero! I've been evaluating the Fuji version of C1 this week - it may or may not be the "best" option for demosaicing, sharpening, or whatever, but it doesn't have Dehaze and the Fuji film sims which I like to use a lot.

So, for me it's a fail I agree than having to convert everything going into LR6 probably isn't the best way to go. I use LR almost every day so I don't mind the ten bucks a month at all, It makes everything much easier and using IXT with it is pretty much a non-issue.

I'm sure C1 is fine too, but I like LR and C1 looks to me like a whole lot of trouble for little if any gain. To me it does make a difference, at least when it comes to the demosaicing. I would never let LR do the demosaicing. Aside from that there are of course several softwares that can give you great results with X-trans. I find it a lot less troublesome to use C1 since I don't have to convert any files anymore. The speed, the layout, layers, color management and the customization are some things I find superior.

At least superior to LR6. I also have the same doubt. In the Lightroom Develop module, the Detail and Masking sliders are critical for sharpening the detail but not accentuating the noise. Fuji cameras are all excellent performers at high ISO with the right settings. I assume you're asking us to look at the worms in the tree. I see them in all the RAW converters I've tried.

Lightroom has long been something of an elephant in the room when it comes to Fuji processing.

In the past, I would suggest only using Lightroom with some tweaks to the sharpening, and only if you found the results acceptable. The downsides of this are that the process requires a fast GPU and it also takes up a lot of disk space as it creates a new DNG file from your Raw file.

However, the results, in my opinion, are probably among the best you will get when processing Fuji files, albeit at a speed and space cost. Note: I've seen some people suggesting that the new "Texture" slider added to Lightroom "solves" the issues with X-Trans apart from using Enhanced Details.

This isn't the case. Texture is a technique to enhance medium details in an image and in no way affects the demosiacing. While it may provide the illusion of shaprpness in certain circumstances it doesn't affect the way X-Trans files are decoded by Lightroom in any way shape or form, so be wary of articles saying this as it's a misunderstanding of the problem with X-Trans files and the way Texture works. For more details on why the X-Trans issues with ligthroom are not caused by sharpening - see this article.

Iridient X-Transformer was originally created to address the shortcomings of Lightroom. It works by demosiacing the software into a DNG file using its own engine.

The software is similar to how enhance details works X-Transformer was released a long time before Enhance Details though but it is faster.Apologies if you have seen the video on my YouTube Channel. What’s the Best way to edit Fuji Raw Files?

If you are struggling to get the computer to see the camera, then its almost definitely the USB cable you are using. And the answer is pretty simple. The JPEG processing engine is in the camera. It is not in the X Raw Studio software. Subscribe to get new post updates You'll only receive new-content emails. Love it. I have Photoshop CC for photo editing. But I need to figure out my RAW file conversion software.

Introduction

There is a trial version available. But having an interface on the computer does make it a lot quicker to find what settings you want, and you can save libraries of settings, so you can have stored settings for your favorite looks. If you're batch converting lots of RAWs, it's roughly as fast as a reasonably powerful computer and an average desktop RAW converter. I use it for most of my images keep in mind this is just a hobby, I'm not a pro. If you prefer shooting to editing, it's a good compromise between just taking what the camera gives you, and spending five minutes per image like a lot of people do when they mess around with Lightroom.

It also gives you a far better understanding of how the camera's DR modes work than just reading about them in the manual. For the handful of images I'm serious about, especially if I intend to print, I'll bring them into Capture One my preferred full-blown RAW converter and spend as much time as it takes on them. You might as well just invest in Capture One or learn something like Rawtherapee if you're going that route.

How to import Fuji X-T3 RAW files into Lightroom - Iridient X-Transformer

I bought it as earlier versions of LR were doing very poor job when demosaicing RAF, especially foliage. Later versrsions of LR were much better in this regard and I did not see the need to use it much.

I have then moved to Capture 1 Pro and not really using it anymore. Iridient Developer is fully featured photo editor. I haven't used it, so cannot comment how good it is at that. It works fine, and it's free.

The upgrade to the pro version isn't really worth it IMO. It's hard to find somewhere to buy it from in some countries, and there isn't a whole lot of additional functionality. With PS as well, it should do the job and you will always be guaranteed to get support for later Fuji cameras.

Tried Silkypix as rawconvertor for the xf files, and was pleased with the results. Replaced PSE14 with Affinity and here I only crop, use clarity and light up the picture if needed and that is all. Fuji gets a cheap or possibly free RAW conversion program and SilkyPix gets the possibility to sell you an upgrade once you are using it.
